Ann T. Wagener, 83, of Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue, Iowa, formerly of Maquoketa, Iowa, died surrounded by her family at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque on Monday, February 13, 2017.

Funeral arrangements will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa, mass of the resurrection will be held at 1:00 p.m. A Catholic Daughters Rosary will be held before Mass. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Ann was born on January 9, 1934, the daughter of Lionel and Florence (Budde) Shea of rural Maquoketa.  She attended Elwood Consolidated Schools, graduating from high school in 1950.  After her freshman year at Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa, she was employed in secretarial work at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa until her marriage.

She was united in marriage to John C. Wagener on February 19, 1955, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Delmar, Iowa.  Ann and John made their home in Maquoketa, and raised seven children.  Although she dealt with MS for most of her adulthood, Ann never let her illness keep her from enjoying life.  She loved her family dearly and found ways to compensate for her physical challenges.  She enjoyed cooking and caring for her home as well as travel and gatherings with friends.  She was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish and belonged to the Catholic Daughters of the America’s. She enjoyed receiving news of their activities even when she could no longer attend meetings.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, who died on May 12, 2014, her parents and her brothers, William and Thomas Shea.

Left to treasure her memory are her children, Nancy (Dr. Michael) Breneman of Arlington, WA, Robert (Julie) Wagener of Maquoketa, Dr. Sharon (Robert) DeWolf of Redmond, WA, Michael (Jill) Wagener of Maquoketa, Kay (Tom) Brotzman of Hazel Green, WI, Mary Ann (Randy) Renner of Maquoketa, and Dr. John Pat (Amy) Wagener of Janesville, WI, her sister, Sr. Marilyn Shea of Clinton, sisters-in-law Dianne Shea of Maquoketa and Rose Ann Shea-Ehm (Bill) of West Des Moines, brother-in-law Le Roy (Pauline) Wagener of DeWitt, and her 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren
