Betty Hainstock

May 15, 1927 ~ February 16, 2017 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Betty Jane Schroeder Hainstock, 89, of Maquoketa passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017 at the Clarence Nursing Home in Clarence, Iowa.  

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lost Nation at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be Monday, February 20 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Lost Nation Cemetery. Lahey Funeral Home is assisting the family at this time.

Betty was born on May 15, 1927 to Carl and Martha (Rechterman) Schroeder. She was born and raised on the family farm west of Lost Nation. She attended school at Mt. Ida country school Kindergarten – 8th grade. She went on to Lost Nation High School for grades 9 – 12. Betty and her friends sometimes had to make the 3 mile walk to school. During World War 2 there was a teacher shortage. The government offered a six week course to get a teaching certificate. Betty received the teaching certificate and taught Kindergarten through grade 8 at her old country school Mt. Ida. She also worked as a post master in Toronto and helped on Lost Nation retiring in 1992.

  Betty married Donald Hainstock on October 19, 1947 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. They were married for 66 years. Mutual friends introduced Betty and Don. Betty and Don farmed side by side on a farm west of Lost Nation where they raised their two sons Steve and Ray. Don passed away on May 17, 2014.

Betty has had  lifelong friends from childhood to today. Some of these friends were in the pinochle club they belonged to for about 60 years. She enjoyed golfing, crocheting, counted cross stitch among many other activities. She loved her family dearly.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children; Steve (Becky) Hainstock of Lost Nation, Ray (Julie) Hainstock of Wyoming, grandchildren; Jeremy Hainstock of Marion, Travis Hainstock of Lost Nation, Joelle Hainstock of Burleson, TX, Josh (Rosa) Hainstock of St. Michael MN, Chelsea (Adam) Sheppard of Monticello, great-grandchildren; Emily and Damon Hainstock, Cruz and Cash Sheppard, Kirvin Hainstock, sister JudyPrice of Tacoma, WA, sister-in-law Jeanette Schroeder of Lost Nation, sister-in-law Ethyl Mae (Bud) Kruckenberg of Wisconsin, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Paul, and niece Daphne.
