Sara and family, Gary and I grew up together and attended 12 years of school together, many fond memories.
We did see him occasionally when we were back in Maquoketa. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

To the entire Holtz families,

I was so saddened to hear this morning of the loss of a very special man who touch the lives of so many with his smile, laughter and of course his wonderful jokes. I was so glad I got to know this very loving and friendly man. He always could make me smile when I was having the worst day ever and I will be eternally proud of the chance to get to know this wonderful man. He will be surely missed by all, especially you his family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

To the Holtz family,
Val and I extend our sympathies to you all on Gary's passing. I remember many a Mass when I would walk in, pass by his pew, and his hand was always out to greet me. I didn't know him well beyond those occasional encounters in church, but those handshakes said it all. Certain people stick in my mind even though I've been gone 3 years now. Valerie and I have had an extensive history with many of your family during our 25 years in Maquoketa and it is always a sad day when we have to read about someone's passing. It has been my pleasure to have known Gary, even if in brief encounters.Know that we will keep him, and all of you, in our prayers during the days ahead. I'm sure that God has welcomed him home.
