Joe A. McGonegle Jr., 62, of Lost Nation passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at his home.
His Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Lost Nation with a visitation one hour prior to the service time. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 10 at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Lost Nation. Lahey Funeral & Cremation Service is assisting the family with their arrangements.
Joe A. McGonegle Jr. was born on April 14, 1954 in Scott County, Iowa to Joseph and Margaret (McAndrews) McGonegle. He graduated from Lost Nation High School. His whole life he farmed and sometimes would work construction. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lost Nation, the Lost Nation Volunteer Fire Department and Sons of the American Legion. Joe enjoyed showing cattle and spending time with any of his animals. He was a great story teller and you often saw him spending his time mowing his yard.
Those left to cherish his memories are four sisters; Julie Knoepp of St. Louis, Missouri, Mary McGonegle of Traverse City, Michigan, Peg McGonegle of Texas, Jane (Dan) Lawrence of Monticello, three brothers; Paul (Jane) McGonegle of Grand Mound, John McGonegle of Bluegrass, Gregory McGonegle of Maquoketa, many nieces, two nephews and a lifetime friend and honorary family member Dennis Huston.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Richard and Marty and a sister Sara Brandon.
