A visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM on Monday, July 24 at Lahey Funeral Home in Olin. Burial will be held at Green Center Cemetery in rural Morley.

Maynard Carlyle VanAntwerp entered this life on September 6, 1939 in rural Anamosa (Landis Road), the son of Mark and Cecile (Parmenter) VanAntwerp. He grew up in the family home on Slide Rock Road and graduated from Morley Consolidated School with the class of 1958. He started working on farms in his early years and with Collins Radio in Anamosa shortly before his marriage to Coleen Hay on September 25, 1959. To this union were born Julie, Scott, and Deanna.

Most of Maynard’s career was in sales at Linn-Jones Farm Service and Shaul Grain. He received Salesman of the Year awards and he considered many of his patrons as good friends. His last few years of employment was at Anamosa WalMart.

Community was most important to Maynard. He was an active member of Morley First United Methodist Church; Morley Alumni, including past president,; offices in Morley Community Club and was Fire Chief when funds were raised for Morley’s new fire station. Maynard also served as Morley Town Marshal for almost thirty years until the State of Iowa no longer recognized that position. Most of all was Maynard’s heartfelt association with the Center Cemetery near Morley. He and the family mowed the cemetery for 27 years and he served on their board from 1985 until recently. Each family he worked with received the same compassion.

Family left to share memories are his wife Coleen and three children: Julie (Mike) O’Connor; their daughter Tashsa, (her children Carter and Isabella), son Wyatt; Scott, his son Colby (Tabitha), (his children Chance and Dazzalynn), daughter Brooke, and step daughter Cindy (son Jackson); Deanna (Carey) Glick, their children Andrea Beddingfield, (her children Tristan, Maverick, and Cael), Rachel, and Zander. Maynard is also survived by his brother Richard (Reva) VanAntwerp, step sister Beverly (Richard) Strand, and sister in law Sue (Don) VonBehren.

Preceding Maynard in death were his mother Cecile and step father Clarence Ricklefs, and his father Mark, brother Arlo, and step brother Marvin Ricklefs. Also preceding Maynard in death were his father and mother in law, Cecil and Myrtle Hay and brother in law Bruce Hay.

We’ll miss you, but we’ll follow your footprint.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Maynard’s honor.
