William M. Koontz, 69, of Grand Mound passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018 at his home.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2018 at Lahey & Dawson Funeral Service in Maquoketa. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Lahey & Dawson Funeral Service in Maquoketa. Burial will be at Busch Cemetery rural Lost Nation, Iowa with Military Honors.
William was born on May 9, 1948 in Iowa City, Iowa to Clinton and Sylvia (Varner) Koontz. He graduated from Maquoketa High School and went on to faithfully and honorably serve in the United States Army. On December 18, 1999 he was united in marriage to Mavis Edwards in Maquoketa. He was a jack of all trades working on chimneys, sidewalks and painting. He enjoyed his career as a mechanic for many years. William spent his time hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, searching for arrowheads and unique rocks.
His memories will be cherished by his wife of 18 years Mavis of Grand Mound and a sister Donna Benedict of Maquoketa.
He is preceded in death by his parents, five brothers; John, Bob, Richie, Jim, Jerry, three sisters; Thelma Davis, Clara Wagner, Mary Ann Hanke and a daughter Cheyenne.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to his family in his honor.
