Wilbur C. Pithan was born September 28, 1919, in Lost Nation, Iowa, the son of William Charles and Anna (Schroeder) Pithan. He graduated from Lost Nation High School in 1937. He married Myrna Schepers on October 10, 1946, in Elwood, Iowa. She died on August 13, 1972. He then married Geraldine Easton Pithan on May 3, 1974, in Lost Nation, Iowa. He farmed his entire life in the Lost Nation area. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Lost Nation, where he served on the Bethlehem Church Council. He was a trustee on the Sharon Township and served on the Lost Nation School Board, the Booster Club, Coop Board of Directors, Lost Nation Fire Department Board and served as president of the Busch Cemetery Board. Wilbur enjoyed camping, dancing, card playing and travel. He loved the Iowa Hawkeyes and spending time with his family and grandkids.

Wilbur is survived by his wife, Geraldine Pithan of Maquoketa; his children, Diane Flemming, Solon, Iowa and Larry (Pam) Pithan of Andalusia, Illinois; step-children, Regena Busch of Monticello, William (Ellen) Pithan of Lost Nation, Ellen Kay (Steven) Tomasi of South Bend, Indiana and Lynnette Pithan of Lost Nation; 3 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and 25 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, two sisters, two brothers, and several step children.

Wilbur C. Pithan, 89, of Maquoketa and formerly of Lost Nation, died Sunday, July 26, 2009, at Jackson County Regional Health Center, Maquoketa.
