Lorna Lou Rubel was born on December 22, 1940 to parents Roland and Luella Rubel in Bellevue, IA.
Lorna lived on a farm in Springbrook, IA with her parents until 1969. After her father passed away, she moved to Maquoketa with her mother. In 1996, she moved to Preston to a home operated by Dac, Inc. now known as Imagine the Possibilities. After several years, she moved back to Maquoketa to another home operated by Imagine the Possibilities. In 2023, she was so excited to move to the “new home with a fireplace” in Maquoketa. She met so many people, friends, and roommates throughout these years and they were all special to her, like family. They went on outings, went shopping, had parties, and attended special Olympics.
Lorna had an incredible memory for people and would remember their names and things about them. She always greeted you with a “Hi Sweetie” and followed up with a hug and “I love you.” Lorna loved animals and there was not an animal that she was afraid of or thought she could not tame. I hope she gets that dog she wanted in heaven. She loved children and babies and loved seeing them when they visited. She loved spa days, having her hair color “red” just like Reba McEntire. She loved music (singing karaoke) and Reba music.
She is survived by sister Shirley (Rubel) Laffey, sister-in-law Nancy (Kloft) Rubel. Lovingly remembered by special nieces: Christy Helmle, Shawnda Moore, and Teresa Volquardsen. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and special friends: Owen and Richard.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: John (Jackie) Rubel, Gary Rubel and brother-in-law Duane Laffey.
