Dale Petersen Obituary

Dale E. Petersen, 88, of Wyoming, Iowa passed from this this world on Sunday, June 10th during his brief stay at the Ed and Joan Hemphil Hospice Unit at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

A service will be held Monday, June 18, 2018 at the Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming, Iowa at 11:00 a.m. Immediately following will be an inurment at the Wyoming Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon and conversation following the services at the church.

Dale was born in Wyoming to Martin and Christina (Lorenzen) Petersen on August 13, 1929. He graduated from Wyoming High School in 1947. He farmed and worked in agriculture services for a few years and then joined the Air Force and served from 1951 – 1954. He then returned to the family farm and continued to work in agriculture. Dale started with the U.S. Postal Service in 1971 and was a rural carrier until he retired in 1994.

Dale was a lifelong member of Zion American Lutheran Church. He was a member of the American Legion. He supported the local high school athletic teams by volunteering at football games, basketball games and wrestling meets. He enjoyed his Canadian fishing trips, golfing, bowling and playing cards. He loved spending time with his family.

Dale is survived by his “children” who were his nephews and nieces: Linda Erickson of Wyoming, Iowa (friend Lee Jones of Marion, IA); Chris Petersen of Apple Valley, MN, Rick (Sue) Petersen of Wilton, IA; Kristy (Tom) Oberbreckling of Wyoming, IA, Brian (Lynnette) Petersen of North Liberty and Lynn (Nancy) Petersen of Cedar Rapids and sister-in-law Shirley Petersen of Wyoming, Iowa. He is also survived by many great nephew and nieces and great-great nephews and nieces that were dear to his heart.

He was preceded in death by his brother Louis and sister-in-law Faye and their infant son David, his brother Melvin, nephews Gary Petersen and Paul Petersen.

The family wished to extend a special thank you to Dallas and the wonderful staff at Woodland Park Assisted Living in Anamosa, Iowa where he resided the past 9 months. The family appreciated the care provided by his doctors and nurses over the years.

Memorials may be directed to the Wyoming Ambulance or The Wyoming Cemetery Association.
