Dorothy Ehlinger, 87, of LaMotte passed away on January 4, 2017 at Eagle Crest South Memory Care Unit in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St Lawrence Catholic Church in Otter Creek. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 13, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa with a vigil service at 7:00, and from 9:30 a.m. to the time of service on January 14 at St. Lawrence. Burial will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery in Otter Creek.
Dorothy Rose Fassbinder was born on April 3, 1929 to Hubert and Lucile (Matt) Fassbinder in Guttenberg, Iowa. She married Leroy Ehlinger on December 28, 1950 at St. John Placid Church.
Dorothy was a country school teacher from 1946 – 1950 and a homemaker. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Jackson County Economist Committee, Altar and Rosary Society, Double D-J’s square dance club, Andrew Garden Club, and Share and Care widow’s club.
She enjoyed flowers, baking pies, especially “Piece of each”, doing handiwork, gardening, canning, painting, craft work, crocheting, word search and loved making things for her family- especially scruffies and dishcloths. She was a “gifted” woman who gave to all she knew.
Those left to cherish her memories are her children: William (Jan) Ehlinger of Sheffield, Iowa, Carol Hoffarth of Rockford, Iowa, Eugene (Dawn) Ehlinger of Prairie Du Chein, Wisconsin ,Lois (Tom) Tucker of Onalaska Wisconsin; 12 grandchildren: Brent (Molly) Ehlinger, Gretchen (Jeremy) Shuler, Angela (Josh) O’Connell, Sara (Peter) Hyun, Christina (Chris) Hedden, Heidi Schlader, Jennifer (Zaga Muyanja) Tucker, Rachel (Brian) Hayward, Stacey (Jordan) Paulus, Melissa Love, Lauren (Brandon) Hanson, and Scott (Hope) Ehlinger; 12 great-grandchildren: Callen and Lily Shuler, Cash and Xander O’Connell, Anna and Timothy Hyun, Carah Moorehead and Logan Hedden, Lydia and Grace Muyanja, Rye Hayward, Baby Paulus (Due in April 2017); sisters; Janet Miniaci, Lois Cunningham, Jeanne Bush, brothers-in-law Kenneth Ehlinger, sister-in-law Aveline Ehlinger, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leroy, brother Robert, sisters Mary and Delores.
Memorials may be directed to Lois Tucker to be used for Eagle Crest South Memory Care Unit, or Camp Courageous in Monticello.
Special Thank You to all the staff at Eagle Crest South Memory Care Unit who gave great care to our Mom/Grandma/Great-grandma. She especially appreciated that ice cream bar after every meal and as needed.
