Elsie Watters Obituary

Elsie Lucille Watters, 97, of Maquoketa passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue.

 

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa, Iowa at 11:00 a.m. A visitation will be held from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church before the service. Burial will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Lahey and Dawson Funeral Home is caring for the family at this time.

 

Elsie was born February 15, 1922, in Otter Creek, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Sadie (Scholtes) Marcus. She attended school at St. Lawrence in Otter Creek, and at Holy Rosary in LaMotte. On May 12, 1947, she was united in marriage to George F. Watters at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Maquoketa, Iowa. They lived their entire married life in Maquoketa and were lifetime members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on November 5, 2011. Elsie enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved being with all of her grandchildren. She loved to knit, crochet, play bingo and go gambling. She also enjoyed playing cards and games with her children and grandchildren.

 

Survivors include her children, William “Bill” Watters of Lost Nation, Steve (Rosie) Watters of Spring Green, WI, Pam (Konrad) Murphy of Maquoketa, and Kathy (Russ) Sellnau of Bryant; a daughter in-law, Helen Watters of Delmar; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

 

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George, and her son, Robert Watters, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

 

The family of Elsie Watters would like to extend a special thank you to Mill Valley Care Center and Hospice of Jackson County for their great care throughout the years.
