Evelyn Mary Carlson

Evelyn M. Carlson, 94, of Bellevue and formerly or Maquoketa passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017 at Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue.

Her Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 8 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa with a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Maquoketa. Lahey Funeral & Cremation Service is assisting the family.

Evelyn Mary was born on September 23, 1922 in Jackson County to Elmer J. and Marina M. (Puetz) Laffey. She graduated from Maquoketa High School and went on to get further education at the University of Dubuque. She was united in marriage in 1962 to Osmind “Swede” Carlson. In her earlier years she was a teacher at country schools in Jackson County and then had a family she stayed at home to raise.

She is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Raphael 1156 of Maquoketa. For many years she volunteered at the Jackson County Hospital and Crestridge Nursing Home.

Those left to cherish her memories are her two daughters; Lewaan Balzer of Golden, Colorado, Shelley Partridge of Boulder, Colorado two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son Kelly.

Memorials may be directed towards her family in her honor.
