John "Jack" M. Devore

John M. “Jack” Devore, 79, of Lost Nation passed away on Friday, August 16, 2019 at Finley Hospital in Dubuque.

His memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at Faith United Methodist Church in Monmouth. A visitation will be held on Monday, August 19, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Lahey & Dawson Funeral Services in Maquoketa. Burial at a later date will be at Elwood Cemetery.

John was born on March 6, 1940 in Iowa City to John and Eva (Scripture) Devore. He graduated from Monmouth High School. On October he married the love of his life Ruth Schepers at the Elwood Methodist Church.

He worked for over 30 years for Case IH and farmed for most of his life. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Monmouth. John loved being outdoors and hunting, camping and fishing. He enjoyed socializing and never met a stranger. You could always find him enjoying coffee with his friends.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of over 60 years Ruth of Lost Nation, two children; Dennis (Tammy) Devore of Maquoketa, Denise (Don) Evans of Baldwin, four grandchildren; Tara (Nick) Kies, Jessica (Eric) Wiederholt, Cheryl (Zach) Bickford, Chelsie (David) Richardson, six great-grandchildren and a brother James (Shirley) Devore of Baldwin.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a son Randy.

Memorials may be directed to the family in his honor.
