Wilma Adrian Obituary

Wilma Gertrude (Wilken) Adrian, 94, formerly of Elwood, Iowa, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2019 at the Martin Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She and her twin brother, Wilfred, were born on August 2nd, 1925 near Andover, Iowa to Fred and Loretta Wilken. She graduated from Goose Lake High School in 1943. 

 

After graduation, she took classes at Mount St. Claire College in Clinton and at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls to become a teacher. She loved teaching third and fourth grade and taught in country schools and consolidated schools in Clinton County for 6 years before she married. 

 

On September 3rd, 1950 she married Ronald Adrian of Elwood, Iowa and together they farmed southeast of Elwood for many years until moving to Cedar Falls in 2012.  She taught in the Delwood Community School for 10 years. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lost Nation where she taught Sunday School for 17 years. 

 

Wilma enjoyed gardening, canning and raising poultry. She also loved sewing, crocheting, and knitting clothes for her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted mother to her children and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She and Ronald traveled to Germany to see their son, Burton, and made several trips to Tupelo, Mississippi to see their daughter, Janice.

 

Wilma is survived by her two daughters, Janice (Dan) Davis of Tupelo, Mississippi, Ronda McCutcheon of Lost Nation; one son, Dr. Burton (Vonna) Adrian of Cedar Falls. Also surviving her are her 9 grandchildren, Nick (Erin) Novak, Heidi (Clint) Risley, Cassandra Novak, Tonya (Dr. Brian) Miller, Melanie (Tyler) Baker, Matthew Adrian, Brian Adrian, Shane(Christine) Davis and Laura Davis, along with 11 great grand children.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald, of 68 years, her parents, her brother, Wilfred, and a great granddaughter, Helena Davis.

 

Visitation will be at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lost Nation at 10am on Saturday, August 24th, with funeral services following at 11am.  Burial will be in the Lost Nation Cemetery.
