Harold Hansen Obituary

 

Harold Hansen, 77, of Lost Nation passed away on January 6, 2020 at the VA Hospital in Iowa City.

 

A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at Lahey and Dawson Funeral Home in Oxford Junction, Iowa from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 13, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Lahey and Dawson Funeral Home in Oxford Junction. Burial with Military Honors will be held at the Elwood Cemetery.

 

Harold was born on March 28, 1942 to Ralph and Helen (Ehlers) Hansen in Maquoketa, Iowa. He married Judith Ann Fritz on July 21, 1967 in Maquoketa, Iowa. He worked on the railroad for 4 years and went on to Wilson Foods in Cedar Rapids for over 20 years. He and Judy ran the Hansen’s meat locker together for 15 years. Prior to operating the meat locker they farmed and raised Corriedale sheep in the Lost Nation and Monmouth areas. He raised bird dogs earning many awards and enjoyed participating in target shooting events. He also enjoyed watching sheep dog trials.

 

He honorably and faithfully served in the United States Army serving in Germany. He was part of the 2nd battalion, 7th Artillery, 24th infantry division and was a tank mechanic.

 

He was a proud member of the American Legion Post #381 of Lost Nation where he held multiple officer positions including commander. He was a member of the Clinton County Pioneer Cemetery Board and was instrumental in establishing the Eastern Iowa Sheep Producers.

Being a weather hound was something he was very proud of, he kept daily readings in his journal. He enjoyed coffee at McDonalds with friends and one of his biggest joys was attending Midland Sporting Events.

 

Those left to cherish his memories are his children; Cheri (Charles) Yarolem of Monmouth, Natalie (Brian) Schurbon of Lost Nation, Darin (Stacia) Hansen of Oxford Junction, Randy (Dixie) Shady of Monticello, 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, a sister LaVonne Turner of Kansas City, Missouri and a brother Gerry (Kate) Hansen of Grand Mound.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sons; Roger and Rolly Shady and a brother Duane.

 

Memorials may be directed to his family in his honor.
