James “Jim” T. Van Dorn, 67, of Monmouth passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at his home in Dixon.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Dawson Funeral Services in Wyoming. A visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 am on Thursday, October 5 at Dawson Funeral Services. Burial will be held at the Wyoming Cemetery.
James Thomas was born on July 5, 1956 in Jackson County, Iowa to Lloyd and Arvilla (Templeton) Van Dorn. He graduated from Midland High School in 1974 and went on to work in the steel industry until retirement. His steel mill career took him to places such as Illinois, Georgia, Tennessee, Canada and Egypt. Upon return from Egypt, he settled back in Iowa when he then purchased his farm in rural Monmouth. Jim was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Maquoketa and the Little Bear Country Club in Wyoming. He enjoyed socializing with his family and friends. Farming and family were the two most important things to him. Jim cherished spending time with is children and grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory are his two sons; Todd Van Dorn and Brent (Laci) Van Dorn both of Monticello, five grandchildren; Justice, Kylee, Bella, Violet, Emmi, a great-granddaughter Audrey, four sisters; Laurie (Greg) Boeding of Rochester, Deb Van Dorn of Maquoketa, Michelle Tredway of Des Moines, Sherry Streets of Springville and a brother William “Bill” (Pat) Van Dorn of Chariton.
He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Bryan.
