Leon E. Kyarsgaard

Leon Kyarsgaard, 92, of Monmouth passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at his home. 

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 10:30 am at the Monmouth Cemetery. 

Leon was born on January 6, 1930 in Sterling, Illinois to Louis and Esther (Gibson) Kyarsgaard. He graduated from Maquoketa High School. In 1952 he enlisted in the United States Army where he faithfully and honorably served. On May 30, 1992 he married Marjorie Louise Taylor. He was a member of the Oxford Junction American Legion Wapsi Post 473. Leon farmed in Jackson county, drove semis and for the RTA Bus. He enjoyed woodworking and working on tractors. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Marjorie, a son Steve (Marijane) Kyarsgaard, step-daughter Rhonda (Rodney) Bickford all of Monmouth, five grandchildren, twenty three great-grandchildren, a great-great grandson and a sister Eloise Larson. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Jean and a grandson Brandon Bickford.
