Steven Day Petersen, 76 of Wyoming, Iowa, passed away March 5, 2026 at the Anamosa Care Center.
Steven was born May 29, 1949 in Anamosa, Iowa and lived on the farm SW of Wyoming until age 10, when they moved to town due to his mother's illness. Steven graduated from Midland High School in 1967, where he played varsity football and basketball, as well as ran track. Steven went on to earn a degree from The University of Northern Iowa in 1971 in general studies. Steven then moved to Vicksburg, MS in 1975 then on to Phoenix, AZ in 1976 where he worked as a silversmith and in real estate sales. Later in life, Steven took two- month long trips to Atlanta, GA where he sold and taught silversmithing to friends he'd made there.
In 1985, he moved to Payson, AZ where he drove trucks for local lumber yards and enjoyed camping and fishing in the mountains and around the Payson area. He moved back to Wyoming, Iowa to retire in 2014. Steven enjoyed golfing and reading Westerns in his retirement, as well as helping with other activities around Wyoming.
Steven is survived by his son, Bryan Petersen and Bryan's half sister.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, a brother who was stillborn and his step mother and Lorie Reynolds, Bryan's mother.
A Graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at the Wyoming Cemetery.
