Vivian Lucille was born September 11, 1932 on the family farm near Spragueville, Iowa to Louis and Luella (Keeney) Eckelberg, she was the sixth of seven kids born to Louis and Luella. For eight years she attended a one room schoolhouse Fairfield#1 and went onto graduate from Maquoketa High School in 1950. She was fortunate to have the first school bus route past her lane. After graduating she worked at JCPenney starting in the basement marking in merchandise and then moved up to the office. In September 1951 she married George Roe and they lived in an apartment while George farmed with his dad. In 1953 George was drafted and in June 1953 Stephen was born.  In 1955 when he finished with his term in the service he came home and farmed with his dad and brother. Eventually they moved to the farm and raised five boys and milked a lot of cows until 1976 when they sold their cows. George passed away from cancer in 1982. Vivian then went to work at a dress shop in Maquoketa called Mary Bee’s until retirement. When she retired she learned to play Bridge, after learning the basics she taught her sisters, Eloise, and good friend Luella Schlapia. They had a foursome for a lot of years and a lot of fun.  Several years later Lois Moore wanted to learn so they had more learning sessions. She spent several years being the secretary with the Jackson County Hospital Auxiliary and worked at the Community Cupboard for several years.

Vivian is survived by her four sons; Stephen (Micki), Brian, Brad, and Bob, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren and her sister Eloise Rubel.
