Gerald L. Burmeister

Gerald Burmeister, 80, of Baldwin passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.

His memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses 1010 West Platt Street in Maquoketa where a visitation will be held from 12:30 until the time of service. Lahey Funeral & Cremation is assisting the family with their arrangements.

Gerald was born on April 19, 1936 in Clinton County, Iowa to Earl and Helen (Westphal) Burmeister. He married Anita Waugh on February 17, 1957 in Elwood, IA.

He attended Delmar School and Excelsior one room school. He graduated from Lost Nation Community School. He lived in rural Baldwin for 60 years. Gerald was a member of the Maquoketa congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, serving as an elder for many years.  He enjoyed farming and the insurance/real estate business. He liked to go places and meet people. He loved studying the Bible and sharing its message with others. He enjoyed playing and listening to music, but most of all he loved his family.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Anita Burmeister, daughters; Gwen (Jeff) Jordan of Maquoketa, Gale Burmeister of Maquoketa, Laura Burmeister of Maquoketa, Elaine (Dennis) Gerardy of Maquoketa, son Gary (Amy) Burmeister of Lost Nation, granddaughter Hannah Jordan of Centerville, Iowa, sisters; Janet (Jim) Irvine of Sequim, Washington, Karen Miskimen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa a brother-in-law Jack Braden of Clinton, Iowa, an uncle Clarence (Eva) Westphal of Omaha, Nebraska and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Helen Burmeister, sister-in-laws; LaVonne Braden and Diane Jarchow.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Hospice of Jackson County in his honor.
